millilitres of water a day
Keep fresh water out all day. Most dogs drink what they need on their own.
How it’s worked out
The daily amount
About 55 ml of water for every kilogram of body weight, the middle of the usual 50 to 60 ml per kg maintenance range.
Cups and ounces
One US cup is 236.6 ml and one fluid ounce is 29.6 ml, so the same amount is shown whichever you measure with.
Questions
When do dogs need more water?
In hot weather, after exercise, when nursing, and on a dry-food diet. Dogs that eat wet food get some of their water from their food.
When should I worry?
If your dog suddenly drinks much more or much less than usual, talk to your vet. A change in thirst can be an early sign of illness.
Is this how the Pako app works it out?
Yes. The app sets your dog’s daily water target the same way, from their body weight.
